Sinfin Running Club began in 1984 by a group of local joggers, who after trying some of the local athletic clubs, decided to start their own club.
The club started with the help of the Sinfin Community Council and met every Wednesday at Sinfin Moor Social Club. The club grew in membership and stature and soon started to pick up individual and team prizes in many races, both at senior and junior level. The club had a very strong family base, which made the club even more attractive.
One of the clubs biggest achievements was when they won the national final of the ‘Today’s Runner’ cross country league. The club had some very good runners, Pete Yeomans and Tim Bishop being just two of them. These two runners won many races including the Worksop Half Marathon and Bury 20 in very good times.
The club went something of a decline in the early 1990’s but managed to keep going with the help of a dedicated committee and the remaining runners. After many happy years meeting at Sinfin Moor Social Club the club were informed they were no longer able to meet there on a Wednesday night and a new home had to be found.
And so it was that the club started to meet at Moorways Sports Centre in Allenton. Here the club remained until 2005 when it moved just up the road to use the facilities at the Rolls Royce Welfare. The club has a small membership but this is steadily growing as new runners experience the friendliness of the club and invite others to join.
